Canoe There
2017 Spring Tour
Canoe There is going on tour!
“You’re not a band, so why are you going on tour?”
You are correct. Canoe There is not a music group. We’re a creative media and marketing outfitter.
We’re hitting the road to make new friends, capture some cool movies, take some photos, and pursue our dreams.
“Why are you contacting me?”
Because you’re awesome! We’d love to meet you, learn more about what you do,
and capture some happenings of your day-to-day.
We’d even love to write about your awesome company in our blog.
“Are you selling me something?”
While we’d love to sell you some of our sweet services (photo, video, web), that’s not what this tour is about.
– no strings attached –
Along with making new friends, we’re aiming to boost our outdoor industry portfolio by making cool things.
It’s our dream to make a living in the outdoor industry doing video production, photography, web development, and marketing strategy.
And quite frankly, we need more portfolio, particularly in the outdoor product industry.
We’ll use the photos we take and the videos we record on our website and share our experiences with friends.
“What’s in it for me?”
New friends (us!), and you are free to use anything we produce on your website and social media!
Who is Canoe There?
A different kind of lifestyle brand. We live for outdoor adventure, photography, video, design, and creative writing. These things aren’t just what we do, they are a part of who we are.
Our name refers to more than a love of paddling.
It’s a metaphor for our process; the answer to the question: “How do I get there?”
Canoeing is a beautiful way to travel. It requires more thought. It’s not about getting somewhere fast, it’s about paddling with purpose so no stroke is wasted.
It’s about taking the time to do things right the first time.
Ryan Borts
Canoe There Project Manager (aka “tour director guy”)
Ryan never gets tired of paddling his hometown river (The Skunk) and has fond memories of a voyage on the Warnow in Germany. He loves basketball and soccer (played both collegiately) but plays a lot more disc golf these days, relishing wooded layouts with lots of elevation. Hiking, climbing, and caving appeal to the explorer in him.
Ryan studied creative writing at the University of Iowa and has been writing professionally since 2005. Poetry is his favorite art form.
Dave Poyzer
Canoe There Production Manager (aka “guy who holds the camera”)
Dave grew up racing canoes with his dad, and the two paddle the Boundary Waters together nearly every year — He has a collection of vintage cameras and is always looking for an excuse to snap Polaroids and shoot Super 8mm — Dave enjoys the serenity of fly fishing as well as the hostility of hockey, which he plays year-round.
Dave’s also been part of the official media crew for the Iditarod the past two years (2016 and 2017) — Shooting photos, video, editing, and even manning satellites for both the Iditarod and its media partner KTVA.
We Might Smell
We’re in it for the adventure. We expect no less than to camp every night along the way, rain or shine.
So don’t be surprised if we show up smelling like a campfire!
